Description: Bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) belongs to the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling family and has a very broad biological role in development. BMP-2 is involved in the hedgehog pathway, TGF beta signaling pathway, and in cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction. It initiates the canonical BMP signaling cascade by associating with type I receptor BMPR1A and type II receptor BMPR2. BMPs are essential during tissue repair and remodeling after injury. BMP-2 also plays an important role in cardiac morphogenesis. BMP-2 is expressed in a variety of tissues such as lung, spleen, brain, liver, prostate ovary, and small intestine. BioVision’s BMP-2 (Mouse) ELISA Kit is based on the Sandwich-ELISA principle. The micro-ELISA plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to Mouse BMP-2. Standards or samples are added to the micro-ELISA plate wells that bind to the specific antibody. Then a biotinylatedection antibody specific for Mouse BMP-2 and Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugate are added successively to each micro plate well and incubated. The wells are washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and blue color develops in proportion to the amount of BMP-2 bound. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of stop solution and turns color. The optical density (OD) is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm. The OD value is proportional to the concentration of Mouse BMP-2. The concentration of Mouse BMP-2 in the samples can be calculated by comparing the OD of the samples to the standard curve.
