Description: Matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) also known as Stromelysin-1 belongs to a family of matrix metalloproteinases. It is involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and tumor metastasis. MMP-3 can degrade fibronectin, laminin, gelatins of type I, III, IV, and V; collagens III, IV, X, and IX, and cartilage proteoglycans. Selective inhibition of MMP-3 and/or targeting MMP generated products could be efficacious for the treatment of prostate to bone metastasis. MMP-3 is abundantly expressed in active rheumatoid synovium, and serum level of MMP-3 is a useful marker not only for the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis but also for the evaluation of prognosis in the joint destruction. BioVision’s MMP-3 (Human) ELISA Kit is used for the quantitative detection of MMP-3 in serum, plasma,issue homogenates and other biological fluids. It is based on the principle of sandwich ELISA. The capture antibody is pre-coated on 96-well plates. The standards, test samples and biotin conjugated detection antibody are added to the wells subsequently, and washed with wash buffer. HRP-Streptavidin is added and unbound conjugates are washed away with wash buffer. The HRP enzymatic reaction is detected using TMB-substrate. Finally, an acidic stop solution terminates the enzymatic reaction. The color developed is directly proportional to the amount of MMP-3 in the sample.
