Biovision | E4895 | CC16 (Human) ELISA Kit DataSheet
Clara cell 16 (CC16, CC10, Uteroglobin) is a 15.8 kDa homodimeric protein that belongs to the secretoglobin family. It is secreted in large amounts by Clara cells, which are non-ciliated cells located in the respiratory and terminal bronchioles of the lungs. Although the exact biological function of this protein remains elusive, CC16 has been demonstrated to have both anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative functions. CC16 can inhibit phospholipase A2 activity, as well as modulate IFN-γ signaling and Th2 mediated inflammatory responses. Increased levels of CC16 occur in the plasma of patients suffering from pulmonary sarcoidosis, pulmonary fibrosis, or with injured lungs as a result of exposure to irritants such as asbestos, fire smoke, ozone. On the other hand, low levels of CC16 occur in the plasma of cigarette smokers and patients suffering from asthma and obliterative bronchiolitis. Therefore, for the abovementioned reasons, CC16 could potentially serve as an efficient diagnostic marker for the treatment of pulmonary diseases and injuries. BioVision’s CC16 (Human) ELISA kit is based on the Sandwich ELISA principle to quantitatively measure the concentration of CC16 in human serum, plasma, and other biological fluids. Test samples, Standards, and Biotinylated Detection antibody are added to the wells pre-coated with capture antibody and then washed with Wash Buffer. The HRP-Streptavidin is added and any unattached conjugates are washed off using Wash Buffer. The HRP enzymatic reaction is detected by the addition of TMB-substrate. Finally, the reaction is terminated with an acidic stop solution. The color developed is proportional to the concentration of CC16 in the sample or standard.
