A cell-permeable superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetic and potent inhibitor of peroxynitrite-induced oxidative reactions (peroxynitrite scavenger), but not a scavenger of nitric oxide (NO). Protects T cells from superoxide generation, caspase-dependent DNA loss and cell death. Also inhibits neuronal apoptosis.
