Product Description
MMP13 or collagenase 3 is an endopeptidase that is part of the calcium and zinc dependent matrix metalloproteinase family. Like most MMPs, it is secreted as an inactive pro-form and is activated once its pro-domain is cleaved. Additionally, MMP13 is expressed by fibroblasts, chondrocytes, and squamous epithelial cells. MMP-13 (Collagenase-3) has been demonstrated to degrade a range of extracellular matrix proteins, including collagen types I, II, III, IV, IX, X and XIV, gelatin, aggrecan, perlecan and fibronectin. Furthermore, it is involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis.
