Function: Catalyzes the first irreversible step in ketogenesis, condensing acetyl-CoA to acetoacetyl-CoA to form HMG-CoA, which is converted by HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR) into mevalonate.
Summary: Tissue Location: Expression in liver is 200-fold higher than in any other tissue. Low expression in colon, kidney, testis, and pancreas Very low expression in heart and skeletal muscle (PubMed:7893153, PubMed:21952825, PubMed:16940161) . Not detected in brain (PubMed:21952825) .
Form: Purified polyclonal antibody supplied in PBS with 0.09% (W/V) sodium azide. This antibody is prepared by Saturated Ammonium Sulfate (SAS) precipitation followed by dialysis against PBS.
Storage: Maintain refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to 2 weeks. For long term storage store at -20°C in small aliquots to prevent freeze-thaw cycles.
