An anti-tumor antibiotic and type II topoisomerase inhibitor. It disrupts DNA synthesis and DNA repair in both healthy and cancer cells. Mitoxantrone also displays broad immunosuppressive activity inhibiting proliferation of all classes of lymphocytes and inducing apoptosis of antigen-presenting T cells.
